A: The Department offers MA, MPhil and PhD degrees in Political Science

 

Q: How many seats are available in different programmes?

A: The number of seats available for academic session 2020-21 are:

i) MA Political Science: 628

ii) MPhil Political Science: 25

iii) PhD Political Science: 25

 

Q: What is the duration of MA Political Science programme?

A: 2 years, divided into 4 semesters

 

Q: What is the eligibility for joining MA Political Science?

A: There are two ways to enter the course:

i) Entrance

ii) Merit

 

Q: What is the pattern for entrance test for MA Political Science?

A: The entrance test will consist of 100 Multiple Choice Questions. Total Marks would be 400. Each correct answer will get 4 marks while each incorrect answer would lead to a deduction of 1 mark. The syllabus of the Entrance test includes all papers that are offered in BA (Hons.) Political Science (undergraduate level) at the University of Delhi. Q: What are the eligibility criteria in Entrance Category?

A: Depending on the previous degree obtained, there are two categories of eligibility in entrance category:

i) All the candidates with BA Hons. /BA Program/BA Pass /BA Degree from the University of Delhi or any other Universities recognized as equivalent to the University of Delhi must have secured atleast 50% marks in last qualifying examination or equivalent grade.

ii) All other graduate (Science/Commerce/Engineering etc) from the University of Delhi or any other Universities recognized as equivalent to University of Delhi must have secured atleast 60% marks in the last qualifying examination or equivalent grade.


Q: What is the eligibility criteria in Merit Category?

A: Candidates with BA (Hons.) in Political Science from University of Delhi, with 60% marks or above or equivalent grade.

 

Q: What is the medium of instruction of MA Political Science?

A: The Medium of instruction is English. However, students can write their individual exam papers in English or Hindi medium.

 

Q: Where will the classes be held?

A: All classes of MA Programme may be held at North Campus (Faculty of Social Sciences building). While the students will be enrolled in different colleges, the classes will take place centrally.

 

Q: What is the system of evaluation for MA Political Science?

A: Each course (Core, Elective and Open Elective) will carry 100 marks, of which 30 marks shall be reserved for internal assessment as determined by the faculty members teaching the respective papers. The remaining 70 marks in Core, Elective and Open Elective paper shall be awarded on the basis of a written examination at the end of each semester.

 

Q: What is the course structure for MA Political Science?

A: Beginning from 2019-20, the Department of Political Science introduced CBCS (Choice Based Credit System) for MA Political Science.

Q: What is the requirement for passing the course?

A: Minimum marks for passing the examination in each semester shall be 40% in each paper. No student would be allowed to avail of more than 3 chances to pass any paper inclusive of the first attempt. Aggregate pass marks for Part I & Part II (combined) is 40%.

Q: Is Online Registration mandatory for all the candidates applying for the PG Admission?

A: YES, Online Registration is mandatory for ALL the candidates applying for the Postgraduate Courses in the University of Delhi.

Q: I wish to seek admission only through the Merit BASED mode. Do I need to apply through Online Registration? Am I expected to pay the Application Fee?

A: YES, Online Registration is mandatory for ALL the candidates applying for the Postgraduate Courses in the University of Delhi, irrespective of the mode of intake. 

Q: Is it possible to get the Admit Card through postal mode?

A: NO, the Admit Cards will be provided through the Online Mode only, you can generate it through your registered account.

Q: When will I be able to download the Admit Card? Is it immediately after filling the Application Form?

A: Admit Card‘s download link will be available at www.du.ac.in after the completion of the registration process. Please visit the PG Admission Portal for news and updates related with the Admission Procedure.

Q: Shall I sign on the Candidate‘s Signature area of the Admit Card before appearing for the Entrance Examination?

A: NO, the candidate is required to sign on the Admit Card in front of the invigilator during the Entrance Test.

Q: Can I submit Application Fee through any other method, like cash, demand draft, cheque etc?

A: NO, the Application Fee is accepted only through the Online Payment options available on the PG Admission Portal.

Q: My internet got disconnected while filling the form. What should I do?

A: When you get the internet connection, login again with your credentials and fill the information again.

Q: How can I correct my mistake in the Application Form? I have uploaded the wrong Photo / ID Proof / Signature.

A: Before making the Online Payment, you can generate Preview and can do the required rectifications. Once you submit the form, during a specified period, you can make corrections in your particulars, but you won‘t be allowed to change Photo / Signature / ID Proof .

Q: How can I apply in multiple courses? Do I need to make payment for each courses separately?

A: After completing your application for one course, you can apply in another course using "Apply Now" button on your home area. For each of the applied courses you need to pay Application Fee separately.

Q: What does the 'Final Aggregate' mean? OR What percentage do I need to fill in Update Result for admission through MERIT BASED mode?

A: 'Final Aggregate' is the combined total of all the B.A. / B.Com. / B.Sc. (or equivalent) semesters (or annual) result taken together. You need to fill the same at the time of updation of Qualifying Examination Marks.

Q: I have uploaded the Final Aggregate Percentage, which has been accepted. But then I was asked to print the form and it still reads Result Awaited.

A: Please check the print of the form carefully. There is a row after Education Qualification with the result you have updated.

Q: What is the date of Entrance Examination for my course?

A: The date of Entrance Examination for different courses will be announced on the PG Admission Portal.

Q: How will I come to know the location of my Centre in the city I have chosen?

A: The information related with the Centre will be announced on the PG Admission Portal. The information will also be provided on your Admit Card.

Q: Do I need to send a hard copy of the form?

A: NO, you don‘t need to send the hard copy of the form. If required, you will be notified.

Q: How can I upload a self-attested ID Proof?

A: 1. Take a photocopy of your ID proof; 2. Self-attest it; 3. Scan it and upload.

Q: Will Application Fee be refunded or adjusted, if I change my category?

A: The Application Fee is mandatory for all categories and will not be refunded or adjusted in any circumstances. In case, the applicant changes the category from UR to SC / ST / PwD / EWS after the payment, the fee will not be adjusted.

Q: Which are the mandatory fields in the application?

A: Mandatory fields are indicated by a red star (*) adjacent to the name of the fields. The applicant must fill the relevant information in these fields to complete the Registration.

Q: I have created my account and filled my Application Form on the PG Admission Portal. Can I use the same account to fill the Application Form for my friend?

A: NO, Each applicant / candidate must create a separate account and fill a separate Online Application Form.

Q: How can Persons with Disabilities (PwD) access and fill the Online Application Form?

A: Such applicants may fill the Online Application Form by using assistive technology. In particular, the visually impaired applicants may use screen reading softwares such as JAWS or NVDA to fill up the Application Form. Those unable to use computer may take human assistance for the purpose. For details of the centre setup by the University for assisting PwD candidates, please refer Section 1.2 of the Bulletin

Q: Will there be any disadvantage for gap year students?

A: No, there is no disadvantage to gap year students and they would be treated at par with regular students. They should meet the requisite criteria for admission and must possess the necessary documents / certificates.

Admission Schedule for PG Admissions (2018-19)

In view of the announcement of UG results, it is proposed that PG Admission portal shall be reopened to allow the candidates to update their marks of qualifying examination and XII class from 17th July 2018 till 22nd July 2018. During this time candidates may be allowed to modify their preferences of colleges filled at the time of registration. No further grievances shall be entertained regarding the same.

Accordingly, the revised admission schedule for Postgraduate Programmes (2018-19) is as follows (except LLB):
